The Grapes Of Wrath

A new planet that has been discovered appears to have had life on it in the past. A paper has been found with five pieces of literature on it. The paper is all that has been found on the planet that tells us how they lived. On the planet there used to be buildings, possibly large cities, but now the only thing identifiable on the planet is the pristine piece of paper. You would think that the literature would be in some strange language nobody would understand, but the literature is in English. It appears that there used to be some form of humans just like us that once lived on the planet and then suddenly went extinct. Did some natural disaster cause them to go extinct or did they cause themselves to go extinct. One of the pieces of literature is a passage from The Grapes of Wrath. The passage demonstrates that the people did not care about other people. They would do anything they could to make money for their families even if that means putting a hundred people out of work. An example of this is, “The machine man, driving a dead tractor on land he does not know or love, understands only chemistry; and he is contemptuous of the land and of himself.” The quote shows that the man driving the tractor does not care about the land. It appears to be about someone who cannot be happy staying in one place. He always has the desire to travel around. When the writing says, “The victim must first find himself a good and sufficient reason for going. This to the practical bum is not difficult. He has a built-in garden of reasons to choose from.” This demonstrates that he is never really happy. The people on the planet were never happy with what they had and always desired more. After they get what they desire they will be happy for a little bit and then soon they will have found something else they want.
