The Grapes Of Wrath: A Short Story

Ralph pulled out on to the beach, wondering if he would get rescued soon. He prayed

to god that someone or something comes to take him back home, where he is comfortable. He

looked and all he saw was the blue water and the light blue sky merging at the horizon.

The savage troop of Jake rushed toward him, Ralph did not try to run, he knew no matter

how much he ran, his fate would take him to the death. Jake manhandled Ralph and gave a nasty

grin that told the whole story of what happened on the island. Jake turned to his group of hunters

with the same evil grin.

“Everyone, the time we have all waited for has come. We will all get the chance to pick

at his skin then finish him. But, we will have to be civilized, first me, then

Immediately after the event, Jake thrust his spear into Ralph’s neck. Jake screamed “There

he lies, in his own tritely blood, anyone else want to join him in his misery.” The tribe shivered,

and said “NO!!!”

Jake and his tribe rejoiced in happiness as they picked on Ralphs skin. They celebrated

the fact that they were the only tribe on the island. Roger strutted stylishly up to the corpse, and

Suddenly, he realized what Piggy and Ralph were telling the truth the whole time. He

should have thought ahead and laid down some rules, as a result, they just became another brutal,

violent tribe. He was suddenly struck with guilt and fainted.

Robert woke him after what seemed like an eternity for the tribe.

“You ok, Chief?” Robert

sin they have committed. We shouldn’t live like this, this is how animals live.” said Jack.

“Well, what are we supposed to do” replied Robert.

“We have no option but to sit here, if we turn on them, they will kill us. That would be better

than living like this” said Jack.

“C’mon, let’s just suck it up”

Just then, a ship stopped at the corner of the beach, and a man dressed in an elegant suit stepped

off onto the burning sand. He pulls out a golden scope that shimmered in the extreme sunlight,

and scoped out his surroundings. He saw a huddle of children around, and started walking

toward them curiously. He walked to the huddle and started to vomit after seeing the dead corpse

of Ralph. Then he looked towards Jack and Robert.

“Are you chief?” he asked Robert.

Robert immediately pointed at Jack.

“We were told to check on the island because of the smoke and fire. Can you tell us what

happened here?” stated the captain.

Jack told all the details to the captain until the part where he killed Ralph. The captain sat

patiently and listened to the story that Jack was telling. Robert stood by Jacks side as if he was
