O’Connor brings her readers the subject of good and evil and the loss of hope for society. We see the Grandmother being arrogant and who claims to be a good christian woman, but at the same time we see the Misfit who is more thoughtful and consciences as he is the one to provide the Grandmother of God’s grace. O’Connor gives the idea that the Misfit knows more about religion than the Grandmother does despite of him being a killer. Towards the end when the Grandmother and the Misfit discuss about whether or not Jesus brings Lazarus back to life, she says maybe he didn't bring him back to life. This proves that Grandmother in fact did not have much faith as she claimed to have. Then when she sees the Misfit in distress and she calls out to him,

Although Misfit pauses and seems to ponder the thought of not killing her, the audience and Grandmother both know that her death is inevitable. Despite knowing she is going to die, she tells the Misfit how good of a man he is, and to just pray to God about everything that is going on in his life. The turning point for the audience, though, is when the Misfit says, “I was a different breed of dog from my brothers and sisters” (O’Connor). This makes Grandmother’s inevitable death even more…

O’Connor portrays the “moral code” not necessarily as good, but simply a code of conduct. At first, Misfit’s moral code appears misguided, but it turns out that it’s the grandmother’s code that is bad. Her moral code is more based on what she thinks is good. She repeatedly deceives her family.…

in this scene it is evident that the Grandmother is selfish and although they have already did away with her family she feels she's was worthy to live merely because she was a lady (Bedford/St. Martins 151). The Meaning of a Good Man is Hard to Find In the story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” there could be several reasons why Flannery O’Connor named the title the way she did and there’s not one right answer. I totally agree with Lienard’s statement because when I had a discussion with my classmates at school and I saw how many different interoperations there was about the title and the meaning of the whole short story.…

The hate and bitterness of his “snarl” is the final implication as to how the Misfit feels about religion (O’Connor 645). Bellamy insists that the reason for the devilish message in the Misfit’s speech is due to his mission to play to role of the Anti-Christ. Bellamy asserts that, “The central message of the Misfit’s sermon, for a sermon is what his remarks amount to, is a familiar one in Flannery O’Connor’s fiction; there is no middle ground between absolute belief in Christ’s messianic fiction and a belief that like is nasty, brutish, and short,” (200). Katherine Feeley notes that the Misfit “embodies all reason and no faith,” which is the opposite of the faith-based personality of the grandmother (202). As Madison Jones remarks, the Misfit “may be haunted, at times tormented, by vision of Christ raising the dead, but he cannot believe it: he was not there.…

“She knew that Bailey would not be willing to lose any time looking at an old house, but the more she talked about it, the she wanted to see it once again and find out if the little twin arbors were still standing””(O’Connor 455). She is the one who insisted on turning back to see the old plantation. Once again it shows how self-centered and selfish she is. When they meet with Misfit, grandmother is the one who recognizes him. If she was smart enough to be quite Misfit probably would let them go.…
