Throughout my life, I’ve had my fair share of good and bad decisions but the best decision of my life was to get my grades straight and focus on school. For the past two and a half years, i’ve put my absolute best into coming out on top and so far i’ve succeeded. Being invited into the National Honors Society is definitely one of my biggest accomplishments that i’m very proud of. My parents have always challenged me to strive to do my best since I was a child. From pushing me to learn how to ride a bike at age five, to striving me to achieve a higher ACT score to attend the college I love, I learned how to become very independent and credible. As I approached my high school years, I changed mentally by creating a positive mindset after my freshman year. As to this day, getting a 3.11-grade point average has affected me in both positive and negative ways. One characteristic that I figured out about myself is that I am a person who learns from mistakes due to the fact that I am a tactile learner.…

When people think about grade inflation do they think about those classes, where thanks to a curve, they were able to go from a failing D to a passing C. When I always think of my Grade point average (GPA) that I got when I was in my country, Ethiopia, it makes me sad. If I had a chance to go back and fix those grades, I would do. In spite of college has many requirements to admit students, I believe my GPA from my country was one reason to me to get rejected from some universities that I want to go to. Because of it I could not apply scholarships that ask a higher GPA like 3.5 and above, and I feel uncomfortable when people ask me about my GPA. This may affect me for future in a way that if there will be something that required highest high school GPA, other than I do not think it will do.…

Though I did well in high school, I didn’t have a motivation to go to college. First, I was born in a country where college education is worthless without family contacts, and second, I didn’t realize the world I was living in and was lazy. I was lazy, never enjoyed studying, but did well in high school simply because I was constantly under pressure from my mother to do so. I was born in Georgia, the country in Eastern Europe. It was a part of the Soviet Union and suffered enormously when the Soviet Union collapsed.…
