The Gospel Of Luke

The Gospel of Luke was written in the mid-80’s AD in Corinth. It is the longest of the 4 gospels in the bible, and was possibly written by a woman who attributed it to Luke. Gospels are formed in three main stages. The first stage of the gospel development is the life and teachings of Jesus as he travelled through the country speaking, teaching, performing miracles and healing, which happened in the late 20’s AD. The second stage is about the post-resurrectional teachings by the apostles, and the Church's practices that grew out of preaching, such as the Eucharist. During these two stages of gospel formation, the gospels were orally transmitted through preaching. Stage three of the formation started when the disciples began to realise that Jesus may not come back in their lifetime, so they needed to preserve the stories, so the third stage is the actual writing and then editing of the gospels. At this point the transmission of the Gospel was through reading as well. Luke wrote this part with Gentile Christians as his audience- the reason for …show more content…
They were told by Jesus with the purpose of encouraging people to change the way they thought and acted and were an effective way for Jesus to teach because they challenged the way that people then and now think by comparing life in our world to life in the Kingdom of God. They were and still are a good and reliable way of teaching because people are able to relate to them and therefore understand them better, no matter how much times have changed since Jesus was on earth.
Times have changed a lot since Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan. As our way of living has changed, the parables meaning may not be understood in the same way as they once were, although they still have implications for our lives today. The actual date of Jesus' birth is not known, but it appears that Jesus was born sometime between 7 and 5 B.C in Bethlehem. 25 December was fixed as his birth date more than 500 years after the event on purely hypothetical data. There is not one Jesus birth story in the gospels, but two. These gospels include Matthew and Luke, where they state that he was born of the virgin mother, Mary, without a male parent. However, Joseph the carpenter has been considered to be his father.…

The reading Gospel of Luke, is a powerful reading that no matter your belief its worth reading. Someone who wasn’t raised in a church background I still find myself believing in God. When reading the gospel, I realized the power one holds when believing in God and his powers. One main thing in the story that I really enjoyed is when Simeon told Mary that Jesus will cause many people to fall and others to stand. This quote stood with me because I believe it to be true to the date.…

It is a common belief that Luke wrote the third gospel and the Acts of the Apostles, but modern-day scholars believe that we cannot be positive about the identity of the author as there is no documented author in the book. Luke wrote his work while in Antioch, a city in Syria, for a Gentile audience. Luke was composed somewhere in between 80 and 90 C.E. Acts of the Apostles was written shortly after the gospel and was the second writing to a man named Theophilus.…

The gospel of Luke is unique from the other synoptic gospels because not only was he Greek, he converted to Christianity and portrayed Jesus as a man filled with spirit; a man of prayer and compassion, especially for the oppressed and for people living on the fringes of society. Luke presented Jesus in such way that he can be seen as a verifiable historical figure, as a teacher and an important prophet in the bible. He also recognises the women in Jesus life, and includes parables about then and gives the recognition, unlike other gospels. The Gospel of Luke was written around the same time as that of Matthew, around the mid-80s of the first century CE and was written in the most refined Greek of any gospels in the New Testament. Like Matthew,…

The Broader Context: The Gospel of Luke In order to best understand how to properly interpret Luke 16:1-13, it is best to first read the passage in light of its surrounding context—the entire book of Luke. In his introduction, Luke clearly states his purpose in writing this gospel: “so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught,” (Luke 1:4). This is Luke 's purpose statement, but what is the truth the Luke is trying to demonstrate? The main theme Luke wants to convey, this “exact truth,” in his gospel is that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messianic Servant to all humankind.…

For instance, there are more women in Luke’s version, starting with Elizabeth and Zechariah as the pious couple awaits the birth of their son, John the Baptist. The gospel author even takes care in providing a look into the relations of women by narrating a meeting between Elizabeth and Mary, both pregnant with theologically important characters. Later on the author speaks of women being the financers of Jesus’ teaching circuit. Through Jesus teachings, it becomes apparent that Luke focused more on the virtues that Jesus lived and taught. He/she also gave little concern for the Jewish law and traditions compared to the other Gospel writers.…

The Gospel of Matthew tells of the story of Jesus's role in the fulfillment of the old prophecy / testament from Isaiah. The author of The Gospel of Matthew begins my informing the readers how Jesus is descended from the line of King David and Abraham. This shows that Jesus is not only a king but the Messiah they’ve all been waiting for. In the book it proceeds to tell of Jesus’s teachings providing even more evidence that he’s as great of a teacher than that of Moses. In the book it talks about Jesus baptism and his 40 day wilderness journey for his test of faith.…

The purpose of the synoptic Gospels is to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to as many people as possible. The writers of the Gospels do this by targeting specific audiences in each of their writings and by also presenting a very specific image of who Jesus Christ was. The Gospel of Mark, thought to be the first Gospel written, spreads the message of Jesus by presenting him as a mysterious man. Mark’s intended audience was mainly the Gentile people who would have been hearing about Jesus for the first time. The Gospel of Matthew, which is thought to have been written second and probably used Mark as a source, is primarily focused on the Jewish people.…

The four Gospels in the bible are accredited to four writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The gospels were split into two groups, which consisted of the synoptic Gospels and John’s gospel. The synoptic gospels consisted of Matthew, Mark and Luke’s gospels. The reason for this was because of the difference between the writings. The synoptic gospels were considered similar, but John did not really contain the same similarities that the other three writings had in common.…
