Sin; It is something that is held within all of us. Some may ask how us as Christians deal with something so detrimental to our relationship with God. The Confessions by Saint Augustine, he will embed himself in sin and how Saint Augustine deals with sin throughout his life, by explaining his inner lustful patterns or the incident with the pear tree. Sin is also prevalent in the title Purgatory, which is written by Dante, it also has something to say about sinful experiences. Even though Monica is what we would call “An attached mother,” she cared about her son deeply, and wanted the best for him. She had the chance to see her son convert to christianity before she passed away, which made her terribly happy. Before she was a Christian, she struggled with sin as well. She let her inner human desire of indulging in high amounts of alcohol take a toll on her life. Her son struggled with a different type of sin, he struggled with controlling his inner lustful pleasures with many woman. He loved to sleep around. And how deeply it affected the life of Saint Augustine by his lustful nature, involving the pear tree scandal. We know that Saint Augustine would not have been the same if he had not been directed by God to turn from sin. Dante was called to embark on a first hand experience with what Purgatory was like. We can conclude that Dante had a detrimental flavor of the after life. After reading these two titles I can now say that I broader perspective of what sin is, and the importance to rid these sins on earth, and become one with
