The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The short story A Good Man is Hard to Find is a southern gothic by Flannery O’ Conner that has brought up plenty of controversy over the years. Published in 1953 and has had many perceptions. Many people have trouble interpreting the book and go completely left field on what they believe it is about. In my opinion I believe the story is about an Elderly woman (The Grandmother) who has lived out her years in great hypocrisy but it takes her putting not only herself but her family in deaths way to realize her mistakes.
The story has two main character The Misfit, the murderer that ends up killing The Grandmother and her family and like I had mentioned earlier, The Grandmother. The Misfit is a killer but as you read on in the tale you see he is not the only “negative” person in the story. You read on to realize that The Grandmother wasn’t a saint either, in the beginning she tried her hardest to convince Bailey to go where she wanted for vacation. She even tried scaring him by telling him about The Misfit. “THE GRANDMOTHER didn 't want to go to Florida. She wanted to visit some of her connections in east Tennessee and she was seizing at every chance to change Bailey 's mind. Bailey was the son she lived with, her only boy. He was sitting on the edge of his chair at the table, bent over the orange sports section of the Journal.
