When she began with Miranda, she was not prepared for what was to come. She felt intimidated, overwhelmed, and embarrassed sometimes. She was tormented with unfair responsibilities and verbally abused and mobbed by her co-workers. Her emotions were at a tipping point but never manifested into more than tears. She was so uncertain about her future. She was very different than the girls there so she felt like an outcast. She desired the job immensely enough to fight through and make a change to keep pursuing her dream. Then, her attitudes changed. After settling in to her office space there was an attitude shift. The organizational attitude had rubbed off on her. There was a bolder, aggressiveness that was not there when she first came into the opportunity. Her stress started catching up to her though. She lost time for her friends and was picking work over her friends and boyfriend. Her relationship with her boyfriend was strained to a point where they were needing to “take a break” from each other. She was very focused at work and very productive, but it seemed her rationality was being obscured. She lost sight of what was important in her lifer and even slept with a man that she barely even knew. Stress could contribute to her difference in actions. The chronic job stressors she was faced with day in and day out finally lead to a strain on her body and mind. She burned out, not being able to fully cope with her duties and resources available. She was always emotionally exhausted and even touched on the depersonalization of people in her life. Continued stress on a worker’s well-being will bring upon behavioral, psychological, and physiological consequences. These could lead to sever problems in the future if not handle in a timely manner.
If this were a real setting, I know for a fact that I would not being able to handle the fast paced work environment seen in New York. Working on an unset schedule and being on call 24/7 as a personal assistant is not my cup of tea.
