Once you put your card into the reader it will allow it to communicate with the chip that is on the card to determine whether the the card is authentic or not. Normally each time the computer will have the customer to enter a PIN and or to just enter a PIN for security. A credit card company, called Chase, found that, "This process enhances the authentication of both the card and cardholder, effectively reducing the possibility that your business will accept a counterfeit card or be held liable for a fraud-related chargeback." Since chip cards have the enhanced chip, it is more difficult to copy your chip rather than your strip. Dave Witts, who is the president of U.S. payment systems for Creditcall had this to say, "If someone copies a mag stripe, they can easily replicate that data over and over again because it doesn 't change."
