The story by Judy Fong-Bates, the struggle between the father and his children is that his child would like to buy coats for his family without disrespecting his word. Sam is usually a grim and bold man to have a conversation or argument with; his children are afraid of him. Sam shows to be a good father because his children are hard working man with a family and reaching a goal, Sam has been teaching them correctly. John was thinking and overthinking the way to approach his father and his hard wall, John knows that “[he is] going to have to stand up to that old man” (15).
