Greek mythology is full of different stories that allowed the Greek's to answer questions they themselves could not explain. The myths spread around Greece told tales of magical beings that could call upon the forces of nature to do their bidding. Greek mythology is a significant fraction of history and, helps historians obtain a unique perspective on what life was during the Greek's reign. The Greeks had a large religion containing many gods, they used these gods to explain things from how the world was created, to how man and animals were made, and even why they had Winter and Summer. For the Greek's each god represented an important part of their life's. The Greek's view of the their Gods was one that believed the Gods were directly involved in their day to day life. All of the Gods in the pantheon were worshipped in their own way. For instance Athena was the patron God of Athens and had a huge statue in the Parthenon. Zeus also had a large statue in Olympia. Each God almost had a cult following with their own ways to worship. It was common for animals sacrifices to take place in order to honor the gods. The Greeks did many things in the name of the gods. One of the most interesting things about the Greeks is their belief in the Oracle of Delphi of the God Apollo word. The Greek creation myths, explain the creation of the earth and sky, and the creation of man and animals. The first being in this myth was Nyx or the night. The myth explaining the creation of earth starts like " In the beginning there was an empty darkness. The only thing in this void was Nyx , a bird with black wings.
