The Godmother: A Short Story

“I can see why,” chimed the Godmother, “Apparently it seems that there are two Catholic high schools on the West Coast, where they are currently being besieged by dark occult forces. Not sure how I’m supposed to react to this, Charles, but one thing does remain certain: I will pray for the students, teachers and faculty of those schools. So will Harold–provided that someone informs him about it.” Reading further, she learned of more nuanced matters that might be of interest to the Ryanites, including those within the RGA. Pointing her left index finger at the couch where Willy Pete was sitting in, he asked Charles, “You mind if I have a seat there, and try to figure out the other parts of these documents?” In response, Guardsman King politely …show more content…
“Nevertheless, it is still a worthwhile idea to look around see what’s what.” “Okay boys,” Margaret as she stood up from the couch she was sitting in, “I’ll ask Harold and see if he’s in on it. From there, I’m going to find some Adelburgers who are interested in coming with us to Omaha by teleportation. Since it’s a Friday, and everyone’s bored and wants to do something over the weekend, surely there’s going to be someone who is interested in coming along for a stroll.” Heading to the door, her hand on doorknob, before she left the room, she told the two boys, “If we find anything down there, we’ll see to it that both of you will be informed before the end of the upcoming weekend.” “Sounds good to me,” Charles muttered soon after the Godmother had already left the room. Following that, the two boys continued to play their game of Catholic’s Know ‘em. …show more content…
And you people are…?”
“Name’s Walther, Walther Schäffer,” he holstered his Colt handgun into the holster on his right thigh, leaving his right hand out for Leah to shake it as a sign of Ryanite courtesy.
“It’s nice to meet you, Walther,” Leah answered back as he and her shake hands together.
“I am Harold Sebastian Brotzman, the State Chancellor of the Ryanites,” the Wise Man greeted the girl. He pointed at the Godmother as he said to the girl, “And the girl right next to me is Margaret Diana Richardson, a friend of mine.”
“My name is Hannelore Elvira Bauer of the Bauer family,” Germania introduced herself to the girl. Leah turned her head toward Germania and the two Adelburgers standing alongside her. “Those two boys who are standing beside me are good friends of ours who won’t dare hurt a single fly…or girl, in this case.”
“Great, that’s good to know,” Leah reluctantly smiled after hearing what Germania said to her. “So you people are all Ryanites – Catholic school kids?”
The Godmother nodded. “Pretty much,” she told her.
“You mind if we ask you something?” asked

The texts The End of Remembering by Joshua Foer and “The Ordinary Devoted Mother” by Alison Bechdel, while are stylistically very different, addresses the same themes of the memory and one’s self-identity. Foer, while not as cold or detached as a scientific paper, uses a more formal and traditional tone when compared to Bechdel who approaches these themes through the lens of a graphic novel. The result of this gives two very distinct perspective on how memories affect one’s self identity. Foer’s theoretical framework of how memory functions and Bechdel’s more anecdotal approach of the effects of her personal memories on her life, provides two very distinctive perspectives on how the prioritization of memories are connected with the creation…
