The Godfather Movie

Any lover of film will almost invariably link this quote by Don Corleone to The Godfather (1972). Even an eight-year-old me could identify the name of the film, even though I had not yet been able to enjoy the masterpiece. I vaguely knew what the film was about: violence, crime, something about family and business, and mafioso culture. However, apart from the most iconic scenes, I probably would not have been able to watch a clip and decisively state, “Oh, I know this movie—isn’t it like called The Godfather or something, right?” Up until this movie, I had never actually seen any R-rated movie in theaters anywhere. I had only seen a few at home when my parents slipped on their somewhat natural overprotectiveness. In retrospect, I feel as though I had been extremely sheltered, at least in terms of where film is concerned. I probably would have stayed that way, too, if it had not been for my then teenage cousin. Going through a somewhat rebellious phase, the then fifteen-year-old had a soft spot for classics. We were then in the middle of summer break, and he was claiming how he and his friends had crept into an old theater to view watch an R-rated movie two or so weeks before. I believe it was Psycho, but I am not sure. Either way, I would have been remiss had I not felt a slight sense of skepticism, so I tried to convince him to let me tag …show more content…
For example, I am reasonably sure I completely missed the secondary plot of the malevolent Carlo abusing his wife Connie and being punished by his brother-in-law Sonny. The complexity of the film and its characters threw me off. My younger brain simply struggled somewhat to keep track of everything that was happening on the big screen in front of us. It was not until I was able to rewatch the film a few years later that I realized how much I had missed out on the first time and the film was a dozen times better, if that is even

The 1972 film, The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is a perfect example of feudalism. With Vito Corleone as the king pin and the rest of his family as major players in the New York mafia. The Godfather is not the normal gangster film or a film about Italian immigrants. Two social movements occur in The Godfather, the aristocratic court, and the coup. While the film takes place mainly in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s, there are no democratic institutions seen.…

Goodfellas is a film that showed the public that art is shown in many ways, and not just a canvas. As a child, I spent most my time with my brother. Spending most time with him, I was able to be shown a whole new world of art. Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas was a huge part in my childhood and would go on to change the way I saw art in the future. However, Goodfellas is not your common children's movie; but it was perfect for me.…

Influence of 1984 in Film The year 1984 was a significant year for film due to the introduction of several influential movies, unique use of special effects, and a new rating system. Several of the movies that were released in 1984 “set a template for sequels”(Truitt 1) and created “the franchises of today”(Truitt 1). The Ghostbusters franchise took off after the movie turned out to be a massive success. Spawning spin-offs (and knock-offs), cartoons, comics, tv shows, and of course, sequels, Ghostbusters proved to be incredibly lucrative, despite how bizarre its premise was.…

This film was based on the diaries of Guevara and provides an account of an 8,000 km motorcycle journey to see as much of the continent of South America in the few months before returning to complete college. The depiction of gender roles in the 1972 film The Godfather \ Francis Ford Coppola took a best-selling novel, The Godfather by Mario Puzo; that was based on a less than common subject (the mafia); that involved an isolated section of a particular ethnic group (first and second-generation Italian- Americans) and made one of the most brutal and moving chronicles of life in America. The Godfather is a trilogy that tells the epic saga of a mafia family, the Corleones (Haskell 1). The Godfather is a film that supports traditional views of gender and portrays men as the stoic provider and women as the caregiver. These are obvious portrayal but looking beyond them reveals the use of women to fully characterise their male counterparts. This depicts specific ethnic stereotypes and serves to fully support the conventional view of male and female roles.…

For the purposes of my analysis I have chosen the restaurant scene from Francis Coppola’s “The Godfather”. The reason being is that the scene is intense and sound design plays an immense role in it. The use of it complements the visuals brilliantly and helps the viewer understand what is happening in the characters’ heads. The scene is full of suspense and a balanced mixture of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds accurately underlines that.…

Though a lot of movies dealing with social oppression are very gloomy, this movie was light hearted and made people think as well. I was surprised at the amount of nudity in the film because I was not expected that for a long period of time. I feel like it really did not add anything to the story, but since they were loose women at a bar, the part fit well. It just did not have to have about 5 minutes of full on nudity with the progress of the movie not moving forward. I did like the fact that the author symbolized the old men as nature versus nurture.…

Money is defined differently throughout different cultures and different countries. Some may define money as anything that has value and can be traded through the fingers of people, whether that be the actual green paper itself and coins, materials such as gold or diamonds, sexual intercourse, or any other way you can get out of an owned debt.…
