The four sub schools, Social Learning Theory, Social Control Theory, and Dramaturgy can be used to understand a criminals behavior. In 1983 film, The Outsiders, examples of all four sub schools can be interpreted. The Outsiders is a movie about a group of teen boys who consider themselves to be "Greasers" the boys misbehave, have knife fights, and commit crimes. Out of all the boys, Dallas Winston, is the boldest.…
Challenge surrounds Caleb (Domhall Gleeson) in the fictional sci-fi movie Ex Machina. He is invited to the secluded home of Nathan (Oscar Issac), an IT god, to conduct a Turing test with a robot, Ava (Alicia Vikander). But as Caleb gets to know her better, he starts to trust Ava, potentially being lured in her unscrupulous plans. Will he listen to Ava who expresses her feelings of seclusion, loneliness and hopes of integrating with human life, or will he listen to Nathan who has the power to ‘turn off’ Ava, basically terminating her life? To find out, you must look and search deeply into the long and windy film to get an answer and it can be somewhat quite boring for an impatient watcher; but this film definitely questions our mind of thought…
O Brother, Where Art Thou is a film directed by Joel Coen portraying the life of three escaped convicts adventuring rustic Mississippi During the Great Depression. The movie is loosely based on the poem The Odyssey written by Homer. The film opens on a chain gang of the penal farm, where are three main characters are introduced Ulysses Everett McGill, Peter Hogwallop, and Delmar O'Donnell (played by George Clooney, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson), which are escaping to pursue an alleged buried treasure Everett buried before the area it is buried in is flooded to make a new lake. They steal a car and begin their long journey through rural Mississippi. Along the journey, the group of men encounters strange people.…
The Big Daddy is a beautiful movie, it teaches us about the true value of love and friendship. I love it and recommend…
Red Tails Critique The color of ones skin does not make them unable to carry out tasks. Throughout the movie, Red Tails by Anthony Hemingway, we see a story unfold as a group of African American pilots struggle with their identity. They are viewed by the whites around them as unfit to fly, but through their struggle they show the world their capabilities. Red Tails depicts a story of the African American pilots in Italy, in 1944 during WWII, who are given a chance to pass the expectations of the people around them.…
This is not something they are used to seeing especially since Marcus has a very strong headed and assertive wife. So, it is clear that throughout each movie the main characters are confronted with unfamiliar traditions within these strange new cultures they are experiencing. Overall, there are many aspects of these cultures such as traditions, power distance, and in and out groups that are new to them and that they must adjust to throughout their time within them. Lastly, I would like to compare romantic relationships within each of these films and how their communication led to either a strong relationship or the termination of their relationship and the stages they went through to get there.…
After hanging up from talking to my mother, I decided to take her advice. If I have to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show for class that it would the best if I was to actually experience the show, this culture, this step into the past, instead of just watching the musical on my laptop and thinking this is the strangest musical in the world. I looked up if there was even any showings still of this musical, and lucky there was one this the Nuart Theater, of course the midnight showing. The price was only $11, a price I luckily could afford as a poor college student. I called up a few friends, family members, and my roommate…
Due to the distorted retellings of Australia’s history, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture has suffered and become widely misunderstood. Stories often provide a myopic, inaccurate image of the Indigenous people, portraying them as uneducated, violent or lazy. While many Australians seem to lack concern for the country’s first inhabitants, there is a large population who also wishes to protect them and resolve a number of issues deeply rooted in Australian history. In an effort to gain recognition for their people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists often use their mediums of choice to expose what it truly means to be an Indigenous Australian. Rachel Perkins utilizes film to explore her identity as an Aboriginal woman as…
Gangs of New York is a movie in the entertainment industry. However, as a historical tool, it is exaggerated. The reconstruction of the Paradise Square and the wooden neighborhood that was overcrowded and the cave like basements enables us to view and experience how living in the past felt. The film also has a performance by Daniel Day-Lewis, who maintains a New York accent throughout the movie. The accent does not exist anymore, and it is anachronistic.…
The movies begins with a text describing how Castro opens the port of Mariel Harbor, Cuba, to thousands emmigrating to the United States in search of the American dream. The text also tells us that Castro unlocks the over packed prisons as well, allowing thousands of criminals to join the refugees. Tony Montana, the main character played by Al Pacino, is one of them. In Florida, Montana starts to make his way to the top, connecting with a powerful gangster by the name of Frank Lopez. Tony is ruthless and shoots down anyone who crosses his path to power, fame, and wealth.…
The movie 42 is a biographical sports film about the rise of Jackie Robinson into Major League Baseball in 1947. The movie focuses in on Jackie’s journey in baseball by describing his experiences through playing in the Kansas City Monarchs, then the Montreal Royals, and ultimately the Brooklyn Dodgers. The movie thoroughly shows Jackie’s battle with racism throughout his baseball career, as he was the first African-American player to break the baseball color barrier. Per the movie, Jackie Robinson went through a lot of hate and agony from baseball players and fans, specifically white people. 42 did a great job of describing one, Jackie’s journey in baseball, and two, the racial segregation in America at that time.…
For my film analysis, I chose to analyze the movie “The Outsiders” directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based on the novel “The Outsiders” by S. E. Hinton. In this movie, a gang of outcasts from the north side of town called the Greasers are always fighting against a rival group called the Socials, who are the rich jocks from the south side of town. The story follows two young Greasers, Johnny and Ponyboy, who aren’t like the others. These two see that fighting is pointless, but it’s just the way they live their life. The two boys get into a fight with some Socials and end up killing one.…
Introduction The Longest Yard, featuring Adam Sandler, as an ex-pro football player and present convict named Paul Crew, is a story of the struggles and tribulations prisoners endure during their track to becoming free citizens. The movie starts with Paul Crew being arrested for a DUI in the state of California and being sentenced to a prison called Allensville Penitentiary in Texas. While in this prison, Crew discovers what it is really like to be a convicted felon and what it is like to have to deal with other convicts, prison guards and the officials of the prison. Right off the bat Crew gets off to a bad start, which is not his fault, he gets in an argument with the warden of the prison about being the coach for an inmate football team that…
Preface In the movie Memento, the viewer is faced with a number of questions about memory and the influences it has on a person’s satisfaction in life, their personality and brain function. These questions are especially relevant to the protagonist, Leonard Shelby who has Anterograde amnesia after damage to the hippocampus. The director, Christopher Nolan, accurately portrays the influences of hippocampal damage, similarly seen in Henry Molasis (H.M) Biological Biologically speaking, Leonard Shelby has anterograde amnesia which is caused by bilateral hippocampal damage.…

This movie is about a 30-year-old man, Sonny decided to adopt a five-year-old child, Julian, in order to prove to his girlfriend that he is not a useless man and he is able to deal with adults’ challenges and responsibilities like others do (Maslin, 1999).
