Between 1770 and 1780 France came into huge debt and this did not get any better because of their current leader King Louis XVI. King Louis XVI was a very weak leader and paid very little attention to this problem as France was already in debt from the American revolution. During this revolution they borrowed alot of money. King Louis wife, Queen Marie Antoinette spent all of their money on clothes, gambling, and jewelry. After being in debt the King decided to call an estates general meeting to approve a new tax, which really did not go well. Foreign troops were called in from Paris.
