It is quite fascinating to find out that there is an organization that works to encourage and fund social entrepreneurship. It is not only a genius idea in practice, but it is a form of motivation, showing people that there is a big support for something like that. Amongst those who have demonstrated in their social entrepreneurship, the story of the Gloria de Souza and Florence Nightingale resonated with me the most. In terms of being willing to self-correct, Bornstein rightfully states that “it takes a combination of hard-headedness, humility, and courage to stop and say, “This is not working”.” Self-correction is an impressive quality because it demonstrates that the individual practices some level of self- introspection. Self-introspection is important as it helps the individual reevaluate his or her thinking as well as his or her methods in achieving the goal. In being willing to work quietly, I believe this quality is the balance between self-correction and a strong ethical impetus. The willingness to work quietly is a lengthy way of saying patience, which the other five qualities revolve around. As seen in the case of Souza, it took her decades before she could convince her peers to try the method of education she was proposing (pg.18). While for Nightingale, it also took her years to fight for the right exercise her passion and a long time to reform the military health system. In addition to why social entrepreneurs’ patience and persistence is their triumphant skill, Bronstein showed that despite her very obstructive health issues, she still managed to author “an estimated 12,000 letters and 200 books, reports, and monographs”
