QUESTION 1: Which of the stories in the book resonated with you? Why? What impact did they have on you?
It is quite fascinating to find out that there is an organization that works to encourage and fund social entrepreneurship. It is not only a genius idea in practice, but it is a form of motivation, showing people that there is a big support for something like that. Amongst those who have demonstrated in their social entrepreneurship, the story of the Gloria de Souza and Florence Nightingale resonated with me the most. As depicted in the text, Souza wanted to bring “environmental education” to India. She was frustrated with the mundane and rather restrictive system of education that focused on memorization rather than understanding and creativity

In terms of being willing to self-correct, Bornstein rightfully states that “it takes a combination of hard-headedness, humility, and courage to stop and say, “This is not working”.” Self-correction is an impressive quality because it demonstrates that the individual practices some level of self- introspection. Self-introspection is important as it helps the individual reevaluate his or her thinking as well as his or her methods in achieving the goal. In being willing to work quietly, I believe this quality is the balance between self-correction and a strong ethical impetus. The willingness to work quietly is a lengthy way of saying patience, which the other five qualities revolve around. As seen in the case of Souza, it took her decades before she could convince her peers to try the method of education she was proposing (pg.18). While for Nightingale, it also took her years to fight for the right exercise her passion and a long time to reform the military health system. In addition to why social entrepreneurs’ patience and persistence is their triumphant skill, Bronstein showed that despite her very obstructive health issues, she still managed to author “an estimated 12,000 letters and 200 books, reports, and monographs”

The documentary, Two American Families, is about two American families (one white and one black) from Milwaukee, the Neumann and the Stanley family, who shared how they lived their lives for two decades. This documentary showed how difficult it was for these families to achieve the American dream, as they were affected by the varying degrees of poverty, unemployment, and poor economy. Watching the documentary, Two American Families, was quite emotional for me. I was able to put myself on these families’ shoes. The documentary showed an example of how a lot of ordinary American families live and face the daily struggles of life.…

In Nathaniel Hawthorne 's The Scarlet Letter, there are many events in which he uses to contrast one another in order to highlight certain aspects of the message he is trying to convey. Some people might say that the Scaffold would prove to be a suitable contrast to the Forest, however, the Town provides a much better contrasting element to the Forest; as truth is welcomed in the Forest and punished in the Town. That opinion is evident throughout the novel as the themes of secrets, nature, and the hypocrisy of the Puritan society exemplify it clearly. Throughout the novel, the foundation has been based upon two main points, humility and the impact of secrets on an individual character.…

While reading Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl my eyes were opened on just how horrible life it was back then and how brutal it would be for the slaves both colored and white. I think about how awful it must have been for my forefathers and all those who witnessed the act of slavery and all they could do was hope that one day their children and their children's children would be able to live the life of a freeman. It also got me thinking about slavery today and so I peeked into it, and did you know that there are more slaves now than there ever was with four decades of the slave trade in America. The part I believe that touched my heart the most was when she was losing hope for herself and for her children, she felt trapped and heavy hearted like she would never get away from her captors truly. The passage that I found this in was Chapter XXXVI, The Hairbreadth Escape on page 147, when she said “It was evident that I had no time to lose; and I hastened back to the city with a heavy heart.…

I have chosen Question One: Emile Bronte’s Wuthering Heights discuss how an attention to figurative language can help in an analysis of literary texts as I enjoyed reading the text and the many qualities that made it such an enjoyable read. When we read something we usually take it as it is but that is exactly what figurative language is not. When we read certain expressions or words with a different meaning it is known as figurative language which is different from literal interpretation. Figurative language goes beyond the meanings of the words that we read which give us, the readers a greater insight into the piece. There are many types of figurative language such as symbolism, metaphors and similes which are all seen in Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering…
