If you come across reading one of Tennessee Williams plays ,you would certainly realize that Tennessee talks often about disability in his plays . He discusses disability ,not only as physical disability , but as mental more often. Tennessee Williams being a younger brother of a schizophrenic sister which he was so attached to as a young child , the devastating effects of his sister’s illness may have contributed to his interest in writing about disabilities in many of his most successful plays .I chose to talk about his intake on disability , the mental and the physical disability because I find this topic a rather delicate topic that could not be easily discussed however one could easily relate to. He portrayed it in many of his plays , but one that was mostly watched and after year of obscurity gave him the chance to become famous was “ The Glass Menagerie” written (1944) .In my paper , I am going to talk about disability as viewed in each of the characters in the play. Moreover, I am going to shed light on disabilities that are merely physical but rather mental. In light of his biography, his family background and precisely his relationship with his sister and her disability –and using journal articles from UOB Library Database and online articles from websites that are credible , my research paper will study Tennesse William’s discussion about Disability especially in the glass menagerie portrayed in Laura’s character and try to show how he viewed such disabilities as shown in his writings
