The Glass Castle Quotes Analysis

Rex and Rose Mary demonstrate a lack of supervision and guidance towards their children in The Glass Castle. Negligence then affects their children’s lives and now they are scared for the future ahead. The story starts out with the hot dog incident: “...when I stood up and started stirring the hot dogs again, I felt a blaze of heat on my right side” (9). This quote verifies Jeanette's lack of parenting she receives. Nobody was there to notice she was on fire while cooking hot dogs until she started screaming and the dog started barking vigorously. This is because her mom was too busy paying attention to her paintings to even care about her three year old daughter by herself in the kitchen. During this incident, Rex wasn’t present… surprising.

The Glass Castle Although Rex and Rose Mary Walls struggled to provide a stable household for their children, they taught them many important life lessons throughout their constant crazy adventures together. Even though Jeanette knew he was only doing this because he didn’t have any money, she enjoyed this moment alone with her dad. But later in the novel after her father passes away, she looks up to the sky and sees the star she picked out when she was a kid.…

In my illustration, I drew the London Clock Tower which is the symbol of England and next to it the England Royal Guard which symbolizes the protection of England, and in a distance from the Clock tower and the Guard, there is Dracula creeping in closer with a female and male vampire following him showing that any being can be infected by evilness and become evil. My drawing illustrates the quote that I chose in the sense that Dracula is ambitious about spreading his blood of evil all over England and anyone infected would then become such evil. And from what I understand, I can most relate the quote to Imperial Gothic, one of the major ideas that we’ve discussed in class. Imperial Gothic most commonly refers to 19th century fiction that is…

Imagine doing or experiencing something great, and something almost regretful at the same time. This sounds much like a dare where one gets a dollar for let’s say dumpster diving. Feeling all the mushy rotten food that burns one’s nose, but that satisfying dollar that one could buy a snack with. Pleasant and nasty, right? However, the book “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens describes positive and negative situations much better.…

“If you don’t want to sink, you better figure out how to swim.” Jeannette Walls and Liz Murray learned this throughout the struggles in their life. In the book ‘The Glass Castle’ Jeannette Walls learned that you have to see the better things in life. For example, when she was burned by scalding hot water at the age of 3 and had to go to the hospital, she used it to her advantage by getting delicious food and gum. Due to his constant drunkenness, Rex often does not come home at night, which makes him an irresponsible father. On several occasions, Jeannette has to summon her father back to the family. On one occasion, Jeannette writes about how she had to go fetch her father from a bar. She had to visit two different bars before she found him (Walls 182).…
