The Glass Castle Literary Analysis

In novel the glass castle the Glass Castle written by Jeannette Walls, has a powerful meaning. While reading the novel it had some intense scenes and made you question everything. I believe the meaning and theme behind the title of novel is hope. As Rex, the father of the novel promises his daughter Jeannette, that he would build her own glass castle when he finds the money for it later in the novel. Jeannette didn’t want to lose hope her in father and believed that he was going keep his promise (“ I would never lose faith in him. And I promised myself that I never would" 2.19.25). She wanted to become an artist and would blame the kids that they were in the way of her future (“ Mom regrets having children; she resents the impact they have had on her art career, blaming them for her lack of success” 3. 43. 25). After horrifying experiences throughout the novel you just reilie on hope and faith that everything will be okay. Jeannette does a prefect job showing this when she had challenges such as when she was making hot dogs and caught herself in fire and suffered with serve burnings. Jeannette overcame her fear by playing with fire. (“ I should face down my enemy, and he showed me how to pass my finger through a candle flame, everytime I did I went slower and slower” 2.15.25). Jeannette has also faced some problems by getting sexually assaulted a few times in the novel and when she spoke out about it to her own mother, she didn't seem to care and shrugged it off and how his dad reacted to that made it seem that Rex has been molested as well. After some time Rex’s mother died and Jim burnt the house down. Things were going downhill, the marriage was over with and faded out. Rex was going to die soon and wanted to see Jeanette
