Perhaps people who have excellent capability of bearing hardship would be more adaptive in the surrounding environment and survive in adversity. Whenever they are in trouble, they coan find a way to overcome it and even save their own lives. As Jeannette and her siblings were able to bear hardship, we see that when they suffered hunger and cold, they didn’t give up themselves but tried their best to find food by themselves. Jeannette found food in other kids’ lunch bag and sneaked into the kitchen for food when she was in school(Walls 68). Likewise, Brian was scavenging as well; he actually got food and away from starvation even though he got punishment from neighborhood(Walls 68). Evidently, Jeannette and Brian could bear hardships when they faced difficulties. They found food in order to survive at any costs, and they had abilities of feeding themselves in any situation. Another example of bearing hardships is Brian worked so hard in order to save money for going to New York. “He worked after school until the sun went down and all day Saturday and Sunday and came home with his arms and face scratched from the brush he’d cleared(Walls 224)”. Brian could bear the pressure from his life and were able to endure pain because he knew that he had to pay the time, sweat, and labor to make his life better in the future. His capability of bearing hardships made him stronger and more powerful, and he changed his life and succeed after he defeated the trouble.
