Thomas In James Dashner's The Maze Runner

Imagine if you and two of your friends are stuck in a huge maze built with tall concrete walls, covered in ivy. To make this situation more interesting, this maze is filled with huge monsters, called the grievers. You don’t have any memory of what happened two days ago. If you had the choice to save your friends, what would you do? This was the situation of Thomas, the lead character in the Maze Runner, by James Dashner. Thomas is sent to a hidden place called the Glade. This place has a huge maze filled with the grievers. He and his friends, the gladers have to find an exit in the maze to escape the glade. Chuck starts hoping that he could see his mom again and go to a regular school. This happens when Chuck, Thomas and the rest of the gladers start planning and preparing for their escape. Theresa and Chuck are packing food and water supplies at the kitchen. Thomas walks to Chuck and says “I promise you, I will get you home safely to your mom”(pg,315). This shows the reader that Thomas gave Chuck hope that he can see his family and friends again and go to a regular school, even though he wasn't sure that was going to happen. This is the last example of Thomas’s lesson. You have to follow it as Thomas did when he promised Chuck to take him home safely to his family. In the Maze Runner, Thomas teaches the reader that you have to do the right thing even if the odds are against you. In this book, Thomas couldn’t leave a friend to die in the maze. He also tried to take Chuck home safely, this shows the reader that Thomas gave up something to do the right thing. It is important to do the right thing, so that the people around you will start to appreciate you and trust you. Doing the right is not always easy.
