The Giver Should Be Banned

Parents of kids in the school system are attempting to ban certain books from the whole school and/or school system. One of the books that has been band is The Giver by Lois Lowry. The words on the pages in the book scare parents. The words that the author wrote are so powerful that parents are attempting to ban them, because they posses the power to make teenagers think about things bigger than themselves. The Giver has previously been banned for a multiple reasons, including sexual awakening, euthanasia, violence, and because it's too dark for children. The Giver, an amazing book, about a society driven by sameness. In this society, there is no color or weather, there is no differences. Having no difference might make things run better, but prevents all the amazing differences that make societies beautiful. History has taught us over and over that you need to fight for what you believe in and never give up. While “The Giver” may be dark at points it is an incredible book that only matches the darkness of the world that teens are going to be thrown into. Preparing young adults for the hard parts of the world and simultaneously showing them the wonders of it is what make “The Giver” a must read book and not something that should be kept away from them. Banning books shouldn’t be a thing, mostly because the only harm a book can do is make people think. If people are attempting to ban a book it is probably because they know they are wrong and afraid of the power the book has to prove how wrong they are. Banning “The Giver” or evening attempting to ban it is a mistake. The book teaches kids wonderful things and helps them explore a world of feelings that they are, much like Jonas, just being awakened
