“The worst part of holding memories is not the pain, but the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared”-The Giver-. In The Giver Jonas shows his community that being different is what make humans human. That it is okay to be different and to feel things like emotions.
Between the film and the novel there are a lot of similarities. One similarity in both the movie and the book is that Jonas gives memories to Gabriel This is important because Gab would not be able to calm down and or sleep, or go with Jonas to elsewhere without being quiet. Another similarity is that one of the twins is released this is important because Jonas had saw what released really means and that is one of the reasons why Jonas took Gabriel in the first place. At the same time another similarity is that the memories get released to the community, if the receiver of memories gets released or goes beyond the border of memory. For example in the movie Asher tried to stop Jonas when he was trying to get away from the community. This is important because the Elders found out and had “bounty hunters” to find Jonas and kill him. Another difference is that In the book the community has dreams, and tell their family unit about them over morning meal. That is important because Jonas can dream about his memorise and relive them. Another difference is that Fiona stops taking the pill or injection in the movie. The reason why that is a big deal is because it shows the Elders and the community that there is more than just sameness, that feelings are a good thing, and that Jonas and the Giver are not the only ones that can see beyond. The last difference is that in the book no one sees elsewhere. This is important because in the movie the Drone pilots get to see what is beyond the community. That can raise curiosity with in the
