The Giver Lois Lowry Essay

Everyone at some point in their life feels as if they are being restricted from doing things the way they want to, but what if your entire life was under control because you chose to? Lois Lowry provides us with a glimpse of how this can come to be. In this combination of science fiction and mystery, this story always leaves the reader wondering what is going to happen next. ¨The Giver¨, starts out with what seems as an utopian society, everyone is the same and everyone seems happy with their lives, however as the story progresses the reader is revealed that this world is not what it seems. Jonas, the protagonist of this story, lives with both of his parents, his sister, and a baby their father wa assigned to take care of. Jonas is chosen by the government to become the next receiver of memories, a person who is able to see the past of human history and feel the emotions of the community due to them abandoning feelings in order to achieve “sameness”. …show more content…

Throughout the story, flow of the writing is both consistent and interesting, and it works really well whenever there is rising conflict between two characters or between the character and a force. In my opinion, this work of literature is a great one and it will surely captivate the reader regardless of what age they may
