The Giver Euphemism Analysis

Decent Essays
Euphemism is shown many times throughout the book, but I think that these two example’s really represented euphemism in the book,The Giver. When Jonas asked his parents if they loved him his mother said “ Jonas Precision of language” p. . It represent euphemism because when mother said “Precision of language” to Jonas it made him feel embarrassed. In The Giver, release can be another meaning of the word euphemism. In my opinion, release is the main euphemism in The Giver as it brings huge embarrassment and shame to the person. I believe that precision of language and release are the two main euphemism in the novel.

Lowis Lowry is an excellent writer of subtly hinting at something like current federal policies and laws, the most major thing being Christianity. Christian symbolism is important to the book because it spreads the word and true meaning of God to those who do not believe in him.
