The Giver: Classic Hero Archetype

Jonas from The Giver is a example of a classic hero archetype. One reason why he is a hero archetype is how he has a fatal flaw, curiosity. For example, he discovers about how his government is not the perfect system like he thought it was, so he investigates further. Eventually this leads to him discovering extremely disturbing information about his government so he devises a plan to escape. Another reason why Jonas is a hero archetype is how he goes through a rite of passage. He faces many unexpected trials when he is chosen to be a "receiver" like trying to cope with extensive knowledge and memories about war, famine and poverty. Finally the last reason why Jonas fits the classic hero archetype so well is because he puts himself above the
