The Giver Chapter Summary

It’s the perfect world… or is it? Several years later Jonas is now nineteen years old and Gabe is eight years old. They are living with the previous Giver named Rosemary. Several years ago when Gabe was a baby, Jonas and Gabe were on the streets for a few weeks. Jonas, Gabe, and Rosemary get along well because they had the same background. When Jonas met Rosemary, he had flashbacks of being The Giver because the current givers daughter's name was Rosemary. No one knew, but when Rosemary called for release, instead of being released she ran away and no one figured out how. Rosemary told Jonas all about her escape and they were the only two people to know about her escape.
Flashback to one year ago, Jonas and Gabe were in a abandoned home next to a grocery store. All day, they would hear people talking and cars honking. Jonas had thirty dollars piled up but didn't know what to do with it because he had …show more content…
This house was much different from the houses in Jonas's old community. This house had nice wood floor, brown furniture with a big yard. The yard was nice and open with green grass. Jonas tells her there whole story and Rosemary says I was from the same community and Jonas remembered her. Rosemary asks “Why did you leave the community?”

Then Jonas answers by telling Rosemary that he ran away from that community because of the fact that he was selected as Giver. Rosemary didn't say anything after that Jonas then remembered she was once selected as the giver to. Also that the current Giver is her father. Jonas says “Sorry Rosemary”, Rosemary with no answer again.

The next day Rosemary takes Jonas and Gabe to buy clothes with the money they have left over from when they were on the street. Rosemary make Gabe and Jonas some juicy meat. On the dinner table Gabe asks
“Who are my parents?”
“Also will I ever get to meet them?”
Jonas replys by telling Gabe “We don't have
