Jonas left the community to release the memories and show people things that were being covered up from there censored lives. In the book and the movie, Jonas left the village and crossed the border to release memories, showing the citizens what they were missing. On page 166-167, it said, "He knew he had the remaining hours of the night before they would be aware of his escape... Together the fugitives slept through the first dangerous day." By Lois Lowry using the word fugitive, it enforces the fact that Jonas broke a rule. In the movie by adding a chase, it emphasized he was being tracked down for his illegal activities. Jonas broke the rules in both the book and the movie, but it was better in the movie because the whole movement and actions …show more content…
Jonas did this because he thought it would bring them joy even though he could get punished. A similarity between the book and the movie is when Jonas gave Gabe a memory to calm him down. In the movie, he gave the memories of an elephant and a boat during a sunset. He knew Merryl Streep would get mad at him for showing Gabe "beyond". Just like how Jonas showed his sister to dance, and the Chief Elder showed up after and was frustrated at him. But he made his sister joyful just like he did with Gabe, and that made him feel fulfilled. In the book he just gave Gabe that one memory of the boat during sunset. On page 116, it says, "Still patting rhythmically, Jonas remembered the wonderful sail that the Giver gave him not long before: A bright, breezy day and clear turquoise lake, above him the white sail billowing as he moved along in the brisk wind." Because Jonas made the decision to give Gabe the memories and share dancing with Lily, he made them happy but not the Chief Elder. But he didn't care he just wanted them to be happy and calm. I think by the movie director adding in Jonas sharing more about his teachings with the Giver it emphasized he wanted to show people the happy things that they were missing even if they were small to give them joy. The movie gave more examples of Jonas trying to show people the small things that gave joy, so it gave more strength to the goal of what he was trying to

In the book and movie, the characters seemed to have the same motivation for their actions. They all had a reason to want to discover the body, and it became more obvious throughout the book and movie what their motivation was. The book and movie both portrayed the boys as a very close group, each having their own bond with each other. On the journey, during the night the boys all wake up and have a deep meaningful conversation about their lives. They also depicted Gordie’s group and Ace’s gang to hate each other which is very obvious in both mediums.…

All these memories gave Jonas the ability to see his community as it really was, lifeless. Nobody in his community was able to perceive the true meaning of happiness or pain. This made Jonas angry because he wasn’t able to share his true feelings with anyone except The Giver. Together they devised a plan that would release all the memories that were transmitted to Jonas into the community thinking they just might be able to change the way the community thought.…

The book and the movie The Book Thief alienates Hans Huberman on his unfavorable view of the Nazi Party in order to show society’s lack of belief on the Nazi Party in Germany itself. Hans Huberman in the beginning of the book is unscathed by the German Party and helps a Jew painter causing him to get looked down by some people in the community. This shows how people like Hans cared about Jews and how he didn’t believe in the Nazi Party’s cause.
