At the age of eight their comfort item from when they were born is taken away from them. This is so that they will grow up not having a thing to have to be comforted. They also take away the girls hair ribbons at the ceremony of eight. They would also get new jackets to wear the whole year. They would have buttons in the front unlike their last ones where they would have to ask people to help them unbutton their jacket. This was to show teamwork. On this jacket they have two small jackets to put little items on their possessions in. This was to show that they are now responsible enough to carry around things in their pocket. The last jacket did not have any pockets at all so they would have to keep track of their own stuff to see if they could keep track of their possessions. Throughout the years they have things to test them to see if they are ready for adult life

If you were in the parent's position, wouldn’t you step up and stop the children’s cruel comments? This illustrates that although the author’s original intent is to make this a peaceful and polite world, it is now a place where people persecute each other. Due to the poor development of the setting and the tone of The Giver, I would not recommend this to you. In addition, I am not the only one who objects the fact that The Giver would be described as an interesting and a mind blowing novel. “This book was absolutely HORRIBLE!…

Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…
