The Girl With All the Gifts is a novel that can only be described as electrifying, and it is by far the book I have most enjoyed reading in the past year. This dystopian science fiction novel by M.R. Carey features Melanie, a sharp minded girl existing in a time where humans have been nearly wiped out by the insect-pathogenising fungi, Ophiocordyceps unilateralis. After a disastrous attack on Melanie’s home and the home of many other kids just like her, Melanie is thrust into a battle for her life and the lives of what is left of humanity.
