A literacy tragedy is a written piece that consists of courageous,noble characters who must confront powerful obstacles ,external or from within. A tragic hero is a character who starts off in a high position but has a major downfall in the end . In the short story “The Gilded Six-Bits” the author Zora Neale Hurston puts her tragic hero through a powerful obstacle to show tragedy in the short story. “The Gilded Six-Bits’’ is considered Tragic literature through the use of dramatic tragedy, tragic hero, and tragic plot. “The Gilded Six-Bits” is considered Tragic literature through the use of dramatic tragedy. His mother tells him the baby looks just like him “You ain’t ask ’bout de baby, Joe. You oughter be mighty proud cause he sho is de spittin’ image of yuh, son. Dat’s yourn all right, if you never git another one, dat un is yourn.” Joe starts to become more compassionate as time goes by. When Missie May gives birth to a son who looks just like Joe, he is able to fully forgive her. He buys her molasses kisses with the gilded coin, which represents affection and sweetness winning out over blame. Joe shows that true love is about growing together and not giving up on each other. Joe is clearly hurt by his beloved wife. Missie May not only cheated on Joe she cheated on him in his own home.A man betrayed by his wife in his home would make any man go crazy. Joe chooses to suffer in silence and his wife suffers as well. Joe becomes increasingly distant and cold.The space between the two grows the couple experience a dramatic drought in the marriage. Missie may now share the pain of Joe. The damage done by Missie seems to be irreversible.
