Both fathers try to give their son’s a good childhood. The author of “The Gift” had a better childhood.
The author of The gift didn’t have to listen to his parents argue. For example one detail would be he only seen kindness. Which means he never heard his parents argue or anything like that. Another detail is he wa always in an uplifting mood. Which most people wouldn’t always be in an uplifting mood if their parents argued all the time. The second reason I think the author of “The Gift” had a better childhood would be because he appreciated his father. Which if his father didn’t treat him well he wouldn’t appreciate him. Also it says his father shows love and tenderness as he pulled out the splinters. This is something someone would do

His story relates to the relationship between a father and a son and uses many generations in his own family as examples. In his story, Updike writes about his feelings and thoughts about having a teenage son and then goes on explaining how his father felt about him and how his father felt about him, and so on. However, if the role of fathers that preceded the changing role of these men is left unaddressed in service to unravel the effect…
