The Giant Ground Sloth

The exhibit Evolving Planet showed how one period led to another. It gives evidence of changes and adaptionsThrough each time a person can see that there were similarities between animals and how they adapted to fit into that period. In the Quaternary Period during the Ice Age I saw what was called the Giant Ground Sloth which is a much bigger version of sloth that we see today. They evolved in the South American grasslands and then later migrated to North America. They could survive cooler climates of their large size and good insulation. Sloths used to be much more diverse. Some were like grazers, some were believed to be burrowers and some even dined in the ocean. I found this interesting since today's sloths are all small, tree dwelling
