A. The genre of Xuanhuan (Eastern fantasy玄幻):
Xuanhuan xiaoshuo (玄幻小说) is the Eastern fantasy fiction genre. It contains supernatural elements in the main plot. The writers create an imaginary world and tell stories that relate to Eastern myths. All the novels are from the writers’ imagination. Neither the background of the story nor the main characters are limited by modern science, time or space. In general, it is believed that the word xuanhuan (fantasy) in Chinese was first mention by fantasy novel writer Yi Huang (黄易) from Hong Kong. The original meaning of xuanhuan for a name of a genre was for a kind of genre fiction based on Chinese fantasy and metaphysics (ref.) The so-called metaphysical element, in fact, refers to writers’ discussions of Taoism, the I Ching, and divination, folklore, and so on. Hua is a kind and hard-working girl but is born with unlucky fate.
