One thing that really struck me was the influence my grandparents had on the career choices of their children. On my father's side of the family, my grandfather owned his own business as a locksmith. Subsequently, my Dad and two uncle started out as locksmiths, later, my Dad branched off to become a self-employed Welder, my uncle Gerald an auto body repair business owner and after my grandfather death, my uncle Herman inherited his locksmith business. Until this assignment, I never really connected the choices my Dad and uncles made in choosing locksmith or work that involved the use of their hands as a career. My uncle, aunt and mother also were farmers, they each owned their own plantation, where they planted crops, raised and sell farm animals. My uncle however, also owned a butcher shop, where he sells his slaughtered cows and pigs. In the neighborhood, my grandfather was also a well-known Sobador (a cross between a masseuse and a healer). He healed most of the neighborhood sprained, broken hands and feet. Later on, both my mom and aunt sold their business and migrated to the United States, went back to school and decided to work helping other as a nurses. Clearly, the pursuits of their father impacted their career
