The Genesis Flood

Majority of the time it can be found difficult when comparing bible stories to any other story. For example the story of Astrahasis takes place after the world was created, meaning no human activity was present. The “Gods” did the work, not men. These accusations would make it hard for someone of the Catholic religion to believe because of their teachings. Catholics believe that only one God created heaven and earth. The concept of reading how different Gods played a major role in creating the earth could be exasperating. Due to different beliefs we are taught to only surmise what our particular religion teaches. This flood story is told through a bible in the book of Genesis in the Old Testament. It is also a story about a cataclysmic flood sent by a God to annihilate human life. In this storyline there is only one God and he created everything from heaven and earth to the seeds in the ground. In the beginning when he created the heavens and earth there was no light. The world was just a black hole of darkness. “Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night” (Genesis 1). This is how all things were created on earth. Once God had created all the animals, plants, cattle, and land, he decided to make mankind. He makes Adam & Eve in replica of his own image. “God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it;”” (Genesis 2). God noticed how human activity began to intensify due to the reproduction of life. The sons of God seen that the daughters of others were attractive and began marrying anyone that they choose. This upset God making him feel like he regretted making human beings on earth. “The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled” (Genesis 6). This is when God knew he had to create something that would diminish the human kind. He knew a flood was suitable for the endeavor that needed to be done. Much like Astrahasis being a favorite of his God Enkil, Noah was a favorite of God in the book of Genesis.
