These men believe in the thought process proven in Lester Thurow’s article, “Why are Women Paid Less Than Men” when he states women “are less reliable workers who are more apt to leave the labor force”. Those beliefs, however, end up causing a backlash. Allowing women to have a lower income causes a loss of potential money for their families. Lester Thurow concludes “When men discriminate against women they have to know that they are lowering their own family income and increasing their own work effort”. Therefore, men will lose more time they could use to spend with their family like going to sports games, school activities, or family events. In effect to the less income, people spend less resulting in loss of production for companies. Also, women work for the same reason as men do, to provide for themselves and their family. As in every situation there is substantial information to back each side, but people must ask themselves which side has the greater good and why. Without question, most women believe that they deserve equal pay, especially in America, but they cannot receive the same pay if one of their occupations’ rules does not let women receive their money. Most importantly men and businessmen need to realize the importance to give the undermined women their money and the impact the money has on society.
