The Gecko

It leaps into the hot, humid, unforgiving jungle of New Caledonia... An adventurous boy, Jacob and his mom, Sara traveled over the many obstacles to finally be able to go to New Caledonia to catch and study the largest gecko in the the world the Giant New Caledonian gecko. After arriving, they set up camp in the jungle and started to search. The unforgiving jungle and its complement of bugs were bothering them to the point that they had to return to camp and zip themselves in their tent. A little while later, they decided to get some sleep and go out searching again and mid-day the next day when the bugs weren’t so bad. So in complete silence, they slowly drifted of to sleep.

He could now see the back of the gecko, but the gecko’s head was still shrouded by darkness. He creeped closer trying not to disturb the gecko. Jacob lunged forward with a spurt of energy. This jolt on the tent woke up Sara who was still asleep, she rushed out of the tent. To find jacob wrestling with a little gecko only 8in long. When the gecko was brought into the light it was instantly apparent it was not the gecko they were looking for. It turned out it was a smaller subspecies. They were frustrated but had no choice but to return to sleep. Very early the next morning they set off on their search. Before long, they had a decent sized specimen in their sights. They slowly creeped toward it. Suddenly, it leaps into the hot, humid, unforgiving jungle of New Caledonia. They were hardly suprised at this point. So, they carried on. A little while later, they stumbled upon another it looked to be full grown. It was massive it had to be almost 18in long. They could tell it knew they were there, they knew it was only a matter of time before it sprung off into the jungle. Before that could happen Jacob dove toward the gecko. He was able to get it into his hands before it ran up a nearby tree. They spent ample time studying and recording the animal. After their study was concluded the released the animal. Soon after they had to leave to return to their home. Wishing they could stay to study more animals they left rethinking the entire
