When most people in the U.S. think of the term ‘sport’; the first thing that normally comes to mind is basketball, soccer, hockey, etc. Not many people think of a sport that involves a mixture of those three common sports. Handball is a more recently developed team sport and it is actually becoming exceedingly popular around the world. The game handball consists of two teams passing, dribbling, and throwing a ball into a netted goal. Each team can only have seven players on the court at a time. The players can run while dribbling the ball or take up to as many as three steps before having to get rid of the ball. In addition, the players have to release the ball before crossing the line into the goalie’s box. Whichever team has the most points at the end of the second period wins the game. In order to be successful at the game of handball, one must posses several different abilities. Some of these abilities include: coordination, balance, muscular power, catching a ball, and endurance. Handball requires hand-eye coordination because the player has to be able to have good aiming and accuracy when passing, or throwing the ball at the net, as well as to dribble the ball. Balance is an essential ability to the game because there is a great quantity of spinning, jumping, and contact involved where a player would need to have balance to avoid falling.
