What will the sports and fitness industry look like in five years?

The sports and fitness industry has come a long way and will continue to grow in the next five years. We will see the gap between the manufacturer and the customer shrink to the benefit of both parties. Also, manufacturers will continue to capitalize on breakthroughs in data collection technologies in order to fulfill the demands of their data hungry customers. With these new analytical tools, we will continue to see more and more innovative solutions to problems that were previously unknown or undefinable.

Another opportunity for the industry to grow is by the acceptance that our bodies, our actions, our sports, and our lives are not perfectly symmetrical.

In addition to my own analytical skills as a professional baseball player, I am fortunate to have access to Easton’s high tech data collection technologies to explore the science of hitting as an R&D Engineer. I am focused on exploring both the bat-ball collision and also what the human body experiences during the swinging of a bat. By independently dissecting each of the small parts of this big picture, I am constantly finding new opportunities to improve the experience for the user.

Baseball, softball, and hockey, are excellent examples of asymmetrical sports. As an engineer, I am prepared to take on the additional manufacturing challenges that go along with designing more customized products. As an athlete, I know firsthand how deeply our customers value that performance advantage. This unique combination puts me in a position to affect serious change in this industry.

My engineering foundation combined with access to Easton’s high tech equipment enables me to reveal opportunities for innovation that no athlete is capable of noticing on their own. This is where game-changing innovation will come from in the future: full immersion into user experience and beyond. My contribution is the direct result of these synergistic factors.
