The Future Of The YA Series Percy Jackson, By Rick Riordan

I’m Vivian, a sophomore at Wes who loves enjoying creativity from other people and trying them out myself – through various cultures (Taiwanese, Chinese, American, Japanese) and various formats (writing, music, art, games, etc.). My other passion lies in psychology, the study of humans, simply because (as weird as this sounds) I love interacting with humans – there is so much to discover, so much potential and complexity to our species. I want to dedicate myself to cross-culture communication/issues and early education improvements and am very exciting to see how entrepreneurship helps me achieve this dream!

Known as the author of the famous YA series Percy Jackson (my favorite books ever), Riordan creates these beautiful worlds out of ancient Greek mythology and fully integrates them into the real world, delivering knowledge and entertainment to young children. Although at first glance entrepreneurship and writing books seem like two completely different areas, they actually share a lot in common – both try to utilize creativity to bring new things to the world; there is also the skill of taking something old and combining it or refining it with the modern. I have a huge interest in education in young children, and as someone personally impacted by this series when I was a kid (it sparked my interest in not just mythology but also English as a language, creative writing, and education), I understand how much potential any type of external source can have on affecting children. I would ask him how he thinks about his audience when he is writing his work, where he gathers inspirations from, and how we can expand resources for kid or improve the ways we reach out to them. In my opinion, most entrepreneur projects tend to focus on adults, some on college students, but very few on the young demographic. There is definitely a gap there that I am looking forward to fill. I believe the discussion will lead to new directions for any projects I work on in the future, bringing more emphasis on education and creativity through

Lee, Therriault, and Linderholm found that being immersed in a new culture also encourages creative thought as well (767). In his speech, “Why our Future depends on libraries, reading, and daydreaming” Neil Gaiman discusses the importance of reading books fostering literacy and imagination, especially for children. Whether it is fiction or non-fiction or any other genre, Gaiman supports people’s freedom of reading whatever they desire. Reading can only be beneficial in the end and people can learn much from books. Gaiman’s reasoning and use of rhetoric allow his argument to be persuasive to the audience he is presenting to. His main purpose is that more people should have a desire to read in this modern world even with the rapid rise of technology, not only to gain knowledge and learn but to allow their imagination to run free and become an intelligent citizen of society.…
