The future of energy sources no longer displays itself wearing a dust mask. The population of Appalachian areas has relied strongly on the coal industry for years. However, dependence on this non-renewable energy source in the rest of America now dissolves to nothing. The collapse of the coal economy has left numerous workers unemployed and laid off. Although this change has acted extremely drastic for the majority of Appalachia, the end adjustments have proved to be extremely effective. The renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar power have primarily replaced the coal industry. Although hard to admit, the use of renewable resources provides many more benefits than the utilization of coal. Renewable energy sources continue to take the world by storm by proving that the necessity to burn substances for power no longer exists. According to Richard Heinburg, “We will be rewarded with a quality of life that is acceptable—and, perhaps, preferable to our current one.” Through the exchange of non-renewable resources for renewable resources, countless advantages arise such as a thriving economy, a cleaner environment and healthier community, and an endless abundance of energy everywhere.
