Throughout this class I have heard, and learned so many valuable, inspirational, and positive stories from all aspects of life. When one thinks about what the meaning of life it can be a question that can’t be answered, I mean does anyone really know? Throughout everything I heard multiple things stick out from Elizondo in “The Future is Mestizo: Life Where Cultures Meet “and Bridges “Resurrection Song” of African-Americans trying to find a place in world they didn’t fit in. Trying to find their voice, and eventually do so. Learning about cross cultures in human development “Lives across cultures”. This class was more than just the human person it was more about human connections. The stories about Professor Klein personal life that help place reality to the topics. Some of the things I learned and taking with me is being able to gain perspective in different cultures, to think outside of the box in relations to human soul. In America we are facing a crisis that is dividing our country more than ever before. It is some of the most difficult times I have witnessed and if ever than before Mestizaje is what’s going to save us. While racism is something that we all know exist, living here in the Bay Area we can feel excluded or that it can’t happen here. With the upcoming elections Donald Trump is provoking certain attitudes that is fueling this …show more content…
I have to ask just when it was great. Was is during the 1600’s when Europeans came over stole the land from the natives, and claim it to be there’s? Or was it slavery when we captured, and tortured millions of Africans to make them slaves? Maybe it was during Jim Crow Segregation? Whenever the time period maybe it all had to with the persecution of people with color. When I am ready books like Elizondo, or Bridges I try to place myself during the time period, and thank god I am alive today; yet with the way things are going now I am not sure that can apply

During World War II, Mexicans and Mexican-Americans were extremely discriminated against in America. Though they worked in the United States of America, and many even served our country in the military, society refused to accept them as equals. The same type of discrimination seems to have existed against a great number of different races in America’s history. Regardless of how much good one does for a country, any form of difference tends to override it. Rather than focus on the successes of the different races, America often just focused on the fact that they were different and, consequently, treated them as inferiors.…

The history of America is made of battles, conflicts and even wars in order to obtain and defend one of the most important principles, freedom. America, the land of the free, is today the home for a bit more than 300 millions of people with about 14% of immigrants, who have left their country to grab a piece of the American dream. From the early English travelers to the African slaves, and most recently the current immigrants, the American land has fulfilled most of its promises as demonstrated by the peaceful living of all the different races. However, the black history has a dark theme to it. First forcefully brought to this country as slaves, it took several laws, a secession of the confederate states, a civil war and three amendments before…

When the Founding Fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776, they did not know the period of great transformation their beloved country would go through in the next 80 years. The economy would flourish and then fall into a panic, only to be revived again. Battles would be fought over land, freedom, and money. Presidents would cause the United States to spiral downward and other presidents had to save the country from dying before it ever really lived. These were the years of several reform movements like the Second Great Awakening and education reform.…

The complex and often bigoted history of the United States earned the nation considerable amounts of respect and success that numerous other countries have been attempting to earn for decades. However, one cannot ignore the many troubling times that America and its inhabitants encountered before earning such a venerated title. As Franklin D. Roosevelt stated, “Remember, remember always that all Of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists” (Roosevelt). This is a concept that Americans often have to be reminded about when they demonstrate acts of discrimination against immigrants. Amongst the most disturbed groups of American occupants are Chicanos and Chicanas, or “…American[s]… of Mexican descent” (“Chicano”).…

During my fieldwork at P.S. 45 John Tyler School I was able to see life-worlds pedagogy firsthand. I observed in a fourth grade Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom with Ms. Stocker and Mrs. Morales. This classroom would be placed at level eight on a Likert scale in accordance to life-worlds pedagogy. This classroom was extremely interactive and the teachers often allowed the children to dictate the themes of the lessons. The teachers tried their best to make sure that the children had an influence on what they were learning and how they learned best.…
