“As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.”- Nelson Mandela. Inequalities are found in many aspects of life whether it be economic inequalities that lead people to be in economic classes. Gender inequalities that can lead to men and women being treated differently in the work place and in society. Or even in our own educational system where student are being treated differently for their level of knowledge or even their learning abilities.
A functionalist view of the economic inequalities in our society is that having inequalities is actually benefiting society. Because having people in different classes with different abilities is a way to fulfil different tasks that need to be done

There are two forms of stratification there’s the caste system and the class system. The caste system is a system that is a little more strictly set than the class system. There are clear set in stone groups, that you can only be born into and not move up or down, you’re born in to a group and you stay there. The class system is a little bit more flexible than the cast system. Also functionalists believe that gender rules are changing because the economy is changing so there are more women working towards higher paying jobs. The conflict perspective shows that the gender inequalities are helping to maintain male dominance. Society is steering men in the direction of having high paying jobs and being powerful, while women are encouraged to stay at home and have kids and take care of their families. If a women who is looking for a job says she has kids or want to have kids there is strong possibility that they will be looked over for a job. Because if they have kids they will have to spend more time taking care of their kids, which could lead to time off from work. The reading “Dude You’re A Fag” by C.J. Pascoe it talks about male homophobia in teenage men, and how being called a fag as a teenage boy was one of the worse thing to be called.
