The Similarities Between Prokaryotic And Eukaryotic Cells

Although these two cells share a lot of similarities there are also many differences between the common prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, however more specifically I will be exploring how the structure relates to the function of an animal cell and a non-photosynthetic prokaryotic cell, and it is explained that, “analysing a biological structure gives us clues about what it does and how it works” (Campbell et al: 2014, p.52). The structure and the function of a cell generally aren’t one without the other, and all biological structures have evolved through time to fit the purpose in which they are needed as they interact with the environment. However the eukaryotic cell uses binary fusion as its means of dividing, “the system includes DNA-based genes, the means to replicate this DNA, and all the molecular tools needed to construct protein molecules from their DNA-encoded blueprints” (De Duve: 1996, p. 51), and it is highly dependent on mutations to occur “for essentially asexual, haploid organisms such as prokaryotes, mutations are a major source of genetic diversity and one of the essential factors in the formation of novel species” (Whitman et al: 1998. p.6589). The way that the animal cell and prokaryotic cell compare towards the structure and the function of the cell division as animal have evolved to form a new way of division, relating its function to the structure.
The animal cell and non-photosynthetic prokaryote have a lot in common and we are able to see this through how the structure has evolved throughout the years to relate to its function. The heterotrophic cells are able to consume its own food instead of relying on the sunlight allowing them to consume nutrients any time of the day whether there is light available or not. This allows the heterotrophs whether they are prokaryotes or eukaryotes to be more diverse and survive through many
