The French an Indian War is a war that occurred in America during the middle of the 18th century. The French and Indian War was fought between the colonies of British America and New France. The war began in 1756 after controversy over land in the mid-west. Both British American and New France fought in the war alongside military units from their parent country. Aside from military assembly the French also were able to gain the trust of Native American and get them to fight alongside them (History.) Ultimately the war ended in 1763, making it last around seven years total. The time span of the French and Indian war, leaves it commonly refereed to as the Seven Years War (History.) The French and Indian war came about through disputes about land surrounding the Ohio River. The Ohio River Valley at the time was considered on of the “most fertile country in America” (America 112.) French settlers from Canada eventually began to build forts in order to declare land they believed was rightfully theirs. The building of these forts did not settle well with colonies, specifically the Virginia colony.
