The Franklin Covey Company was the result of a merger in 1997 between Franklin Quest who specialized in management seminars and the Covey Leadership Center owned by Stephen Covey. The Franklin Company was notable for its introduction of the day planner which was known as the Franklin Day Planner. The Covey Leadership Center was owned by Stephen Covey, a practicing Mormon, a Brigham Young Professor, and author of motivational books, including The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Stephen Covey earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Utah. He went on to receive his Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University and a Doctor of Religious Education from Brigham Young University. …show more content…
Centiro is a privately owned company that was founded in 1998 and is a leading software company in Transport Management. Centiros’ headquarters is in Sweden with offices in India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The company offers a wide range of cloud based solutions including transport management, e-commerce platforms, return management and visibility to clients worldwide. Centiro believes in empowering its clients. Centiro was ranked in the top three as a “Great Place to Work Institute”. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Centiro, Niklas Hedin, attributed its high ranking to the company’s employees and how they treat customers. This is the culture of the organization in which Hedin stated, “Culture is purposeful design and not something that you just get, but something you invest in everyday” (Success Stories. (2014). With that in mind, Centiro incorporated the seven habits framework to enhance its already good culture and to enable the company to grow. It also served to create a common language throughout the company. To accomplish this, the company held an off-site workshop for three days to explore and learn about the seven habits. If you win, then I win. Centiro recognized that developing this habit creates teamwork and not competitiveness among employees. Habit five “Seek first to understand, then to be understood”. This habit reinforces listening with the intent to understand. Another example is in greeting a colleague and asking “how are you” and really listening to the answer. Habit six is to synergize. This is the premise that the whole is better than the part. Everyone can contribute as we have differences that we can bring to the table.
