I’d like to thank you for the work that you do, and making it possible for myself to be apply for this internship. I decided to apply for the Frankfort Internship due to my personal philosophy that a hands-on learning experience will teach me more than in a classroom setting. I have been interested in politics since the age of six when I told my grandmother that my dream job was to be a United States Supreme Court Justice. I have worked at local, state, and federal level campaigns, and I enjoyed every minute that I worked for them. The reason politics interest me so much is because it allows for direct help to be given to millions of people such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Intern Nation by author Ross Perlin analyzes the current state of internships in astoundingly immensedetail. In specific, Perlin focuses on the variety of internships, including “the good, the bad, and the ugly; the paid and the unpaid; the ostensibly academic and the completely untethered; part-time internships lasting a few weeks and full-time ones last a year” (XVI). These elements are described through first-hand accounts; for example, the interns at Disney World and the government interns on Capitol Hills. These elements are also described through in-depth investigation; for example, the 18 percent of interns who work without pay or the evidence of companies and government organizations firing full-time paid staff and replacing them with…

I was lucky enough to interview Brad Ciolek the scouting administrator for the Baltimore Orioles. Brad and I had our discussion on the phone over fall break, which lasted about 30-40 minutes. Mr.Ciolek told me that after playing high school baseball, he decided that he enjoyed baseball so much that he wanted to attempt to make a career out of it. While discussing his professional life with me, I found out that Brad attained this position through interning with the Orioles in 2011; briefly leaving the organization and returning in 2013 when a job opening presented itself. Mr. Ciolek is very important to the Orioles organization due to the fact that he is in charge of roughly 700 players scouting reports each year.…

I explained how my mother works for the state and urged me to consider the wonderful opportunities. My first question to Jeff was when looking at job applications is there more of a focus on work experience or volunteering? He explained that with internships they were not as concerned with these aspects as they would be for someone applying for a full-time job. He advised that if I had any sort of interest working for the state, an internship would be a wonderful start for my professional…

It did not me from being involved in my university as well. April 15, 2013; an explosion occurred during the Boston Marathon, killing three and injuring several hundred. This was the date when I decided to change my field of study from an important but broadly insignificant focus in mechanical engineering to one in political science. It was in the wake of this devastating blow to America’s security that I realized the important role I could play in shaping foreign policy and security initiatives should I devote my life to the study of international relations and the political infrastructure of the United States. I subsequently transferred schools, moving 1600 miles from Richmond, VA to Fort Collins, CO, to pursue a bachelor’s degree in political science from Colorado State University, which I completed…

Interning for a political race, especially at the state level away from the glamor of national level campaigns, requires me to be ready to go anywhere or do anything. During the early weeks of my involvement in the campaign, my duties went from moving furniture into our new office to filling in as a manager and spokesperson for a weekend so that we could cover more ground during a weekend that had events across the district. Typically though, my days are not so varied. When I come in every day, I work on projects all morning and into the early afternoon. This usually involves entering data from the previous day's canvassing so that we have an up to date registry of Southern Illinois voters.…
