The Frank Lloyd Wright's Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Decent Essays
The Frank Lloyd Wright’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is an example of organic architecture. In the book it says “ Its rounded form encloses a ramp that spirals around an empty center that is 90 feet wide. Certainly, the museum creates a striking visual image” (Lazzari 417). The Museum does look very awesome because of how it is spiral shaped and the color of the building is just white which is a plain color. The Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall looks much more exciting to look at because of how the building has a unique look and sweet stainless steel look. This building is called Deconstructivist because how there are many little structures formed together. Something these two buildings have in common is how they have some type of curving

I visited Mitchell Museum of the American Indian located at 3001 Central Street, Evanston, Illinois. Glancing through the outside of the museum, my impression was this is a pretty small building. I had a single story about the building; I thought I might have chosen the wrong museum to go to since it is small in size. However, as soon as I walked through the main door, I had a good feeling in a cozy building with full of American Indian artifacts, pottery, and native fashion. I was filled with more knowledge through the major regions of United States and Canada such as Woodland, Plains, Southwest, Northwest, and Arctic.…

After reading “Museum” by Naomi Nye, I think that the purpose of her essay is to convey the message that mistakes or embarrassing moments not only have an effect on you, but on the individuals around during the moment. To explain, “Museum” is about the author and her friend, who entered into the wrong house believing that it was the McNay Museum. It is not until the home owners bring it to the women’s attention that they are in the wrong place. During this embarrassing scene, the teenage daughter was present and her views of her parents and her home were changed. To further my explanation, the teenage daughter bumps into the author thirty years later and reveals to her that it was her embarrassing moment/mistake that opened her eyes to the…

Andrea Burns book From Store Front to Monument: Tracing the Public History of the Black Museum Movement is a fascinating interpretation of the development of the African- American Museums. Her argument that in order to understand the development of African- American Museums it is important to first look at where these museums were built and the goals in which the embodied; “Understanding the origins of this evolution helps us contextualize and historicize black public history, from its modest but courageous beginnings to its present-day manifestation as a bold and highly visible movement”. Burn’s argument can be seen in every chapter and every museum that she chooses to present. Burns book is broken down into six chapters and each of those…

Thomas Merton once said, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” This quote is true, but it isn’t the whole story. A more appropriate description is: art gives the one looking at it an extraordinary feeling that is partially described by the quote above, but the only way to really know what that feeling is like is to experience it. In Mason City, we are very lucky to be able to have the chance to experience art in a variety of ways at our art museum, the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum. A part of their mission statement, as written on their website, is to “...sustain a thriving environment in which American art and exceptional collections are collected, stored, and displayed...”…

A week ago with my transition to Kean class I went on a visit to Liberty Hall Museum; this museum has been made a historical landmark of Union in hopes to continue to inspire and people to turn dreams into reality. Liberty Hall Museum has been the home to a very influential governor of New Jersey and later bought into the Kean family. When touring the museum the architecture immediately caught my attention. The beautiful hardwood floors were the first thing that I noticed as they squeaked louder with each step; continuing into the house the chandeliers in each room caught to light instantly and I was in awe. Today I would never imagine having a tea room, and separate sections where the children stayed and played away from their parents, and the kitchen kept at the bottom of the house.…

I went to the St Louis Art Museum and after attending I believe that I do have a better understanding of the artwork. All the art pieces were spread out through the art museum. They had spaces dedicated to old fashion, furniture sets and a site-specific art piece that Andy Goldsworthy did for the museum. They also at the time had a flower show being put together at the museum where one artwork would get to recreate a piece of work made out of flowers and you were really able to see how the flowers related to the artwork.
