The main risk factors of depression include loss, previous abuse and having a family history of depression. It is also said that females are twice as likely to suffer from depression than men due to estrogen, which may modify the activity of neurotransmitters that contribute to depression. Depression is a disorder that does not get the attention needed. Approximately eighty percent of those who suffer from depression are not receiving the necessary treatment. There are nine types of depression people need to be aware of. The first and most common type of depression is major depressive disorder. Major depressive disorder also known as clinical depression is the stubborn feeling of grief. The second type of depression is under diagnosed, Atypical depression. This type of depression causes the feeling similar to paralysis. Those who suffer from this may have relationship problems and tend to gain weight. Emotional symptoms are when a person feels sad hopeless have little interest in things they used to and may feel overwhelmed. For example a person that is going through emotional symptoms might say something such as: “ I don’t enjoy spending time with my friends anymore”. If this person socially changed all of a sudden then it is something you may have to look into. Another aspect would be the physical health components. The thing that confuses people is that depression doesn’t always involve the mental state of mind; it also affects one’s body. Those suffering from depression may have bodily pains and their body will shut down. For example, one may say: “I feel I have no energy” This can be a physical symptom or just a temporary issue. Behavior is the last component, which they may behave differently, for example: a person who is lively and cheerful may become slow and uninterested in what is going on around them. An example of this is losing interest in things such as sex (decrease in libido). This could be a sign that a person is not ready to break out of his/her circle. One cause of depression may be excessive stress. As like depression, components leading to stress also play a huge role in depression. So some may ask what is stress? Stress is generally our body’s way of adapting to demands placed upon us. A good example of stress is feeling threatened.
